Today, the usually celebrated “Day of Spas”, was blackened by a tragic incident near Yambol where 16 people died in a bus crash. Sincere condolences to the relatives of the victims! In connection to the tragic incident, for tomorrow, May 29, the NMSS calls off all the EP elections’ events.
The NMSS Central EP elections’ headquarters is also canceling all the elections’ clips in the media for today and for the day of mourning.
The problem stays – the loss of a human life today ranks much higher above other values; we need to strive and reach a common European level of protecting our values. We need to go beyond the simple talking about road safety and trouble-free transport. The tragedy that happened today, though an incident, makes us consider how and when we are going to start observing the rules.EU has already set to itself the target of reducing the road tolls with 50% till 2010. Some time ago, in the EP, I launched the question of: whether and when are we going to have a common European policy on road safety, with a common traffic police control system to enable an enhanced road safety; how can we make an European indicator to become compulsory for all member states. The high mortality rate on the roads is a challenge that makes every state fight to reduce it.
