Bilyana Raeva provided 110 Treaty of Lisbon Guides to the Lisbon Strategy Sofia Conference participants

110 copies of the Treaty of Lisbon Guide, written by Andrew Duff, a British Member of the European Parliament (ALDE), have been provided by the Bulgarian Member of the European Parliament (ALDE) Bilyana Raeva to the participants in the conference “The Lisbon Treaty- European Perspectives”, held on February 5th 2008 in “Sheraton” Hotel in Sofia. Bilyana Raeva is member to the European Parliament Coordination group on the Lisbon Strategy from the Alliance of liberals and democrats for Europe (ALDE) quota. Representatives from all political groups in the European Parliament are members of the Group and it seeks to observe the European Union’s progress to achieve Lisbon strategy’s goal, aiming to make EU the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy in the world by 2010.

“The Lisbon Treaty of reforms is the key issue for the European Union”, announced at the opening of the Conference the Minister of European affairs Gergana Grancharova. She noted, that in the Lisbon Treaty, one of the most definite successes for Bulgaria has been reflected – the Bulgarian spelling of the “euro”.According to her, the Lisbon Treaty can be assessed as a political game of a new generation, where every actor is performing for his own public, but finally it obeys the higher priority and the interests of the community. Minister Grancharova added, that with the Lisbon Treaty, an end is put to the painful debates of how decisions should be taken and what type of institutions correspond to an enlarged European Union of 27 Member States.

The Conference was organized by the Diplomatic Institute of MFA, the European Institute and the Center for Policy Modernization under the high patronage of the Minister of the European Affairs Mrs. Gergana Grancharova.
